About Future of Work…by Design

Work is changing faster than we can name it. AI, automation, and shifting expectations are rewriting what it means to show up every day. Future of Work…by Design is a weekly newsletter about navigating that change with intention.

I’m not here to predict the future. I’m here to talk about how we can design it alongside the people living it.

How it Started

This newsletter grew out of my research on AI, work, and human experience. Before that, I spent two decades as a designer and artist, exploring how emerging technology reshapes the way we create, interact, and connect with each other.

Future of Work…by Design brings those paths together, sharing insights and inviting more people into the conversation.

About Me

I’m Eric P. Rhodes, a researcher, designer, and artist. My career has spanned leading global design programs at tech companies, founding a pioneering digital art studio, and studying how AI and automation reshape the human side of work.

For me, the future of work isn’t just about productivity, which is often the lens people use to discuss it. It’s about trust, meaning, and adopting technology in ways that truly support the people doing the work.

Where it’s Going

Future of Work…by Design is a living lab where I share big ideas worth exploring, quick hits from research and practice, and open questions worth wrestling with.

Over time, I want this space to grow into a community of people curious about building a more human-centered future of work by design, not by default.
